Tutoring Iniative General Information
What Is Forrest Hills Elementary Community Coalition (FHECC)?
A coalition of current and future parents, concerned citizens, neighborhood association leadership and resident teachers from all over the school district who have joined forces to embrace, support and improve our community's elementary school. Our goal is to support the teachers and current students, increase community and parental involvement and look forward to the day when all children in the school district attend Forrest Hills Elementary.
General Information About The Tutoring Initiative
The FHECC's Tutoring Initiative is one of our goals for 2004-2005 and is an immediate need for the school. This is an excellent opportunity for retired residents and others from the community to help children in our area.
- Tutoring will take place in the school and in a specific classroom with an assigned teacher (to make sure your efforts are in line with their goals for that child).
- Most of the sessions will be one-on-one unless the format is changed by the teacher and volunteer.
- Morning session are usually 7:30-8am (each week or time you meet with the teacher before and she/he tells you what to work on) sometimes this can run into 8:15am but that's up to you. You pick which day of the week and time that best suits your schedule . You can do one session per week or up to five – whatever time you can give.
- Afternoon sessions are also available. FH Elementary will now run the after school program and would appreciate tutors for time periods from 3-5pm during the week. Afternoon sessions are subject to availability.
- Grade levels will vary – depending on their need or your preference. You can be assigned to the same child each time or different ones, you can request to work with the same classroom/teacher
- Most of the help is needed in the reading and language arts area, but there is a need with math as well. If you have a preference for the subject matter, please let us know.
- Once your information is collected, you will be contacted by the school to confirm and verify your availability.
